Look at figures beside books
Standing figures create vertical lines, while desks and scrolls spread horizontally. Seated figures suggest a different pace. Before reading every detail as supernatural, compare the simple shapes of paper, brushes and robes.

Explore the autumnal first sheet
The first sheet combines tall-hatted figures, scrolls, books, desks, a white fox, black birds, lanterns, red leaves and a moon. Pale and dark garments alternate among warm accents. Keep a desk scene together if you want a small narrative setting.
For reading notes, place that scene below the book title and your comments. Write beside an illustrated scroll rather than treating its marks as an authentic text or a blank writing form. The page can remain useful without interpreting every symbol.
Compare blossoms and snow
The second sheet adds flowering branches, fans, a gate, bridge and a circular instrument-like object near a seated figure. You can appreciate the combination of circles and straight lines without assigning the object a precise technical name.
The third emphasizes snow-like white and blue, with a moon, lanterns, birds, foxes, bridges and steps. Link it to a softer floral page by repeating a garment color or a small light. Alternatively, keep each palette on its own page.
Let paper shapes guide placement
A long scroll, an open book and a narrow paper strip suit different gaps beside your writing. Choose a shape that fits instead of shrinking every detail. On a text-heavy page, one brush or flower may be enough.
Keep faces and the centers of books away from the fold. Leave a little white border around delicate ornaments. Think about the finished arrangement before choosing an intricate cutting method, especially for narrow hats or trailing robes.
Place moons and lights near words
A small round moon can sit beside a date; a complete dark night scene makes a stronger visual statement. Decide which role you need. Once a dark motif is present, use fewer supporting figures and flowers.
Orange light and cool blue snow offer contrast, but screen brightness does not guarantee the same printed effect. Test faces and fine lines at the intended size. If details disappear, use a larger motif or choose a simpler one.
Keep research and imagination distinct
For historical reading, record the book and page separately from impressions suggested by the illustration. Let the artwork add atmosphere rather than prove how a ritual or tool functioned. That distinction keeps your notes reliable.
A personal diary needs no grand story. A sentence you read, a question to investigate or a thought worth keeping can sit beside a desk scene. Choose an image that supports the record you actually want to make.
