Mori no Akari Series

About this set

An armored protector carries a small pagoda among autumn maples, a celestial musician plays a biwa in a moonlit garden, and a sword-bearing figure stands in flames inside a temple. Set 10 combines weight, elegance and dramatic light.

Decorated gold armor, woven robe patterns, the wood and strings of the instrument, and fire reflected on wet stone provide contrasting textures to explore. Maple leaves, cherry blossom, lotus flowers, lanterns and a bridge enrich the Japanese-inspired settings.

Mori no Akari Series

Shinbutsu no Saika is a collection of Japanese-inspired sacred fantasy illustrations presented as line art with color references. Set 10 invites you to reinterpret its landscapes, robes and ornaments in your own palette.

What is included

• An armored protector with a long weapon and a small pagoda, surrounded by red maples and stone steps. A crown, golden ornament, windblown cloth and stone lanterns reinforce the stately pose. Includes one color reference and one matching line-art image.
• A celestial musician playing a biwa beneath a full moon. Purple and ivory robes, cherry blossom, lotus flowers, a bridge, a stone lantern and a nearby white snake fill the garden scene. Includes one color reference and one matching line-art image.
• A figure holding a sword and wheel-shaped ritual object within orange flames. Dark temple beams and columns, moonlight beyond the doorway and reflections at the feet create strong contrasts. Includes one color reference and one matching line-art image.

3 line-art images and 3 color references, 6 images in total. One A4 PDF and one US Letter (8.5 × 11 inch) PDF are included, each with 6 pages. The 6 original JPG images are also included. Both PDFs contain the same 3 designs in different paper sizes; they are not additional designs.

Files and printing

Unzip the download and choose the PDF that matches your paper: A4 or US Letter. Check your printer's printable area and use an appropriate fit-to-page setting so the artwork is not cropped.

The original JPGs can be opened in a compatible image application. Original image proportions are preserved, so white margins vary between images and paper sizes. Dedicated 8 × 10 inch and 11 × 14 inch PDFs are not included.

Coloring ideas

Use brown or deep red shadows in the gold armor to distinguish its ornament. Keep the moonlit blues and purples gentle around the musician, and use a darker background to bring out yellow and orange flames.

You do not need to copy the references exactly. Choose paper suitable for your coloring materials and enjoy your own combinations of colors.

Who may enjoy this set

For lovers of celestial musicians, armor and temple lighting, with both quiet and dramatic scenes to color.
