About this set

A four-armed guardian raises ritual objects against lightning, a pale-robed bodhisattva stands among flowers beneath the moon, and a sword-and-rope-bearing figure faces a waterfall. Set 11 explores strength and stillness through blue light and golden detail.

Mountain temples beneath lightning, rocks surrounded by spray, and white flowers and grasses moving in the breeze give each figure an active natural setting. Deep blue and orange, or ivory and pale gold, offer contrasting ways to build light and atmosphere.

Mori no Akari Series

Shinbutsu no Saika is a collection of Japanese-inspired sacred fantasy illustrations presented as line art with color references. Set 11 invites you to reinterpret its landscapes, robes and ornaments in your own palette.

What is included

• A four-armed guardian holding vajra-shaped ritual objects. Blue lightning, an orange-red fiery halo, mountain temples, layered jewelry and fluttering cloth create a forceful composition. Includes one color reference and one matching line-art image.
• A bodhisattva among white flowers and grasses beneath the full moon. A white lotus held in the hands, ivory and pale blue robes, fine gold details and a circular halo lend a quiet radiance. Includes one color reference and one matching line-art image.
• A guardian holding a sword and rope on a rock amid waterfall spray. Dark blue cloth, orange and blue flames, white falling water and rough stone create vivid contrasts. Includes one color reference and one matching line-art image.

3 line-art images and 3 color references, 6 images in total. One A4 PDF and one US Letter (8.5 × 11 inch) PDF are included, each with 6 pages. The 6 original JPG images are also included. Both PDFs contain the same 3 designs in different paper sizes; they are not additional designs.

Files and printing

Unzip the download and choose the PDF that matches your paper: A4 or US Letter. Check your printer's printable area and use an appropriate fit-to-page setting so the artwork is not cropped.

The original JPGs can be opened in a compatible image application. Original image proportions are preserved, so white margins vary between images and paper sizes. Dedicated 8 × 10 inch and 11 × 14 inch PDFs are not included.

Coloring ideas

Preserve light areas for lightning and spray, then layer different blues around them. In the pale-robed scene, use soft blue-gray shadows and restrained gold accents to retain an airy appearance.

You do not need to copy the references exactly. Choose paper suitable for your coloring materials and enjoy your own combinations of colors.

Who may enjoy this set

For colorists interested in lightning and waterfalls, strong guardian figures, graceful pale robes and blue-centered palettes.
