Mori no Akari Series

About this set

Moonlit water, a deep-green ancient tree, and flames rising against snowy mountains give Set 05 three distinct moods. Serene bodhisattva imagery sits alongside a forceful guardian scene, creating a varied collection of sacred fantasy illustrations.

Explore the differences between reflected light and soft blue fabric, green robes and rough bark, or a dark buffalo and bright red flames. Jewelry, rocks, foliage and distant mountain lines offer smaller details around each central figure.

Mori no Akari Series

Shinbutsu no Saika is a collection of Japanese-inspired sacred fantasy illustrations presented as line art with color references. Set 05 invites you to reinterpret its landscapes, robes and ornaments in your own palette.

What is included

• A bodhisattva seated on a waterside rock beneath the moon. Blue and silver robes, reeds, a distant temple and reflected lights create a quiet night scene. Includes one color reference and one matching line-art image.
• A green-robed bodhisattva with one hand raised before an ancient tree. Flowing ribbons, roots, a stone path and a distant gateway lead the eye into the forest. Includes one color reference and one matching line-art image.
• A many-faced, many-armed guardian riding a black water buffalo. Held weapons, red-orange flames and snow-covered mountains create a dramatic contrast. Includes one color reference and one matching line-art image.

3 line-art images and 3 color references, 6 images in total. One A4 PDF and one US Letter (8.5 × 11 inch) PDF are included, each with 6 pages. The 6 original JPG images are also included. Both PDFs contain the same 3 designs in different paper sizes; they are not additional designs.

Files and printing

Unzip the download and choose the PDF that matches your paper: A4 or US Letter. Check your printer's printable area and use an appropriate fit-to-page setting so the artwork is not cropped.

The original JPGs can be opened in a compatible image application. Original image proportions are preserved, so white margins vary between images and paper sizes. Dedicated 8 × 10 inch and 11 × 14 inch PDFs are not included.

Coloring ideas

Layer blues and violets in the night scene while preserving highlights on the water. Vary the greens in the forest, and contrast cool snowy mountains with warm flames in the guardian image.

You do not need to copy the references exactly. Choose paper suitable for your coloring materials and enjoy your own combinations of colors.

Who may enjoy this set

For anyone who enjoys both tranquil moonlight and dramatic guardian imagery, or wants to explore natural textures and warm-cool contrasts.
